The centre was founded in 1979 and was restructured as an independent legal entity in cooperation with the City of Paros in 2000. It is located on the Paroikia-Lefkes/Naoussa road and is housed in a 200 sq. m. structure with a fenced playground of sq. m. for the children’s athletic activities. The centre has the capacity to care for up to 60 children for the purpose of their preschool education, meals and care in accord with the state standards for health and safety, as well as providing an invaluable service to working parents. The centre is governed by a five member Board of Directors and the members are appointed by the Paros City Council.
The centre’s policies are as follows:
Registration is held from the 1st to the 15th of July each year for children that have reached the age of 2.5 years by the 15th of July and have been toilet trained. Children may continue to attend the day care centre until they are of age to begin the 1st grade of primary school.
The Board of Directors sets a monthly tuition according to the economic situation of each applicant child’s family.
The centre is obliged to perform regular medical supervision of the children enrolled and that service is provided by the paediatrician on duty at the Paros Medical Centre.
A child psychiatrist also visits the Day Care Centre once per month in order to provide counselling for children and parents.
There are two departments in operation:
a) For children 2.5 – 4 years of age.
b) For children from 4 – 6 years of age (kindergarten or primary 1st grade).
There is a daily programme, geared to each age group, with activity corners: lending library, dress-up, visual arts, rhythmic gymnastics, theatrical games, recognition of pedestrian and traffic rules, etc.
Festivals are organised and held by the centre for the Christmas holidays, Carnival and the end of the school year.
The children are provided meals prepared on the premises with emphasis on the use of local produce, meats and fish.
The Board of Directors of the Centre, in cooperation with the City of Paros, provides among the many other educational activities musical-kinetic training with the Orff system and group athletics. With the active participation of the parents via the PTA the smooth and productive operation of the Centre is insured.
