Paros received honours at the Lugano International Tourism Exhibition in Switzerland.
This was the first time our island has had the honour of being awarded at an international exhibition. The exhibition also provided invaluable publicity for Paros in a very intriguing market.
Paros was represented by Mayor Ragousis, Vice-Mayor Mr. Stratis Pavlakis and Ms. Maria Triviza, President of the newly founded Paros Tourism Office. They had the opportunity to establish many valuable contacts within the Swiss tourism industry.
Upon acceptance of the international award, on behalf of all of the residents of Paros, Mayor Ragousis presented the Swiss organizing committee with a Cycladic idol made from Parian marble, a gesture of appreciation for this auspicious recognition.
The entire event, including the awards ceremony, was widely broadcast by all of the Swiss television channels.
