On Sunday 1st October 2006, The Most Reverend Christodoulos, Arch Bishop of Athens and all Greece, made a pilgrimage to Our Lady Ekatondapyliani accompanied by a delegation from the Holy Synod. High Mass was held with chorale psalms and was followed by a public celebration with island music and traditional dance performances. The City Philharmonic had an awards ceremony and Mayor Ragousis addressed the large crowd of local residents and visitors. He greeted all of the distinguished guests from the Ecclesiastical community as well the Minister of Education and Religion and the Minister of Development and gave a brief history of the Cathedral of Our Lady Ekatondapyliani and the importance of that landmark to the spiritual and cultural life of the island.
